Burning oil storage tankEntry/Object ID
2007.128.1.1Description
Photograph of a burning oil storage tank, California, 1924. The image, printed onto a non-published postcard with space for correspondence and the address on the reverse, shows a heavy plume of black smoke rising from the tank and several hoses shooting water onto the tank from two sides. There are two persons standing at a fence near the tank and there is an automobile with 1924 California license plates in the middle of an unpaved street in the foreground. Other tanks are behind the fence near the burning tank and there are power poles along the street, but no indication as to location. With some stains, soiling, and edge rubbing, the overall condition is good.Lexicon
