"Skyward," by Richard E. Byrd (New York and London: G. P. Putnam's Sons and The Kinckerbocker Press, 1928), 359 pp. The hardcover book, without a dustjacket, has a blue cover with gold lettering for the title and author's name at the top of the front and the title, abbreviated author's name, and publisher's abbreviated name on the spine. On the inside of both covers and one flypage are maps of the North Pole region, showing exploration routes. The book is an account by Commander Byrd of his 1927 aerial expedition, as well as earlier attempts, to the North Pole. It has seventeen chapters detailing the trip and also examining the concept of aerial exploration. There are nearly fifty photographic illustrations to the work, which is in good condition with some abrasions to spine and cover, corner dents, light cover soiling, light fading to spine lettering, back cover scratches, and some light page discoloration.Lexicon
