Description

Color: Blue A commemorative plate of Cabrillo Bridge, San Diego, issued by W. Adams & Co. of Tunstall, England, ca. 1920s. The transfer print in blue piece shows the bridge at center leading to the portion of Balboa Park where buildings from the Panama Pacific Exposition of 1915 are located. There is an idealized landscape of a river crossing under the bridge and grasses, evergreen and palm trees, and low hills in the background. Around the edge of the plate is a floral design with white space between this border and the image. On the reverse is the maker's mark, reading: "THE ADAMS / SOUVENIR SERIES / W. ADAMS & CO. / TUNSTALL / ENGLAND / ESTD. 1657." The first four words are enclosed in a banner design and there is a branch-like design at the sides of the company name. At the beginning of the maker's mark is some fading and there are many sections of the bottom with blue ink smearing. With small chips along the edge and several small scratches on the face, the plate is in good condition.
