Description

Color: Black; Gold "California and Californios, Volume One" by Nellie Van de Grift Sanchez (Chicago: Lewis Publishing Company, 1926), 569 pp. A hardcover book with a black cover, the title and volume number are on the spine in gold lettering. Along the outside edges of the pages is a blue and gold marble design. Volume one of a five-piece series, the book documents the history of California and its residents in three parts: "The Dark Years of Barbarism," "The Dawn of Civilization," and "Under the republic of Mexico." John H. Temple and William Workman are among those prominent Californios mentioned by the author. Black and white drawings and photographs of places and people in California are also included among the text. With abrasions along the edges of the cover; fading of the design on the edge of the pages; and darkening of the lettering on the spine, the book is in good condition.
