Description

Color: Black; Blue; White "California Home Owner," a magazine published by the Home Owner Publishing Company, March 1924. The 39-page artifact, numbered in series from 79-118, has the title at the top of the front cover over a blue background with decorative fleur-de-lis designs. At the center is a photograph of a pond and water fountain in a Beverly Hills park. Within a small shield below this is "Beverly Hills, the 'City / Beautiful,' in This Issue." The issue month and year is at the bottom left and the price at the bottom right. On the back is an advertisement from a brick manufacturer's association and the mailing label is at the top center, addressed to a recipient in Ohio. Advertisements constitute the inside front cover and first two pages, followed by the table of contents. Articles discuss English-style and Spanish Colonial Revival-style architecture; Beverly Hills; paint; rose planting; books and their storage in houses; the use of hollow tile; brick in homes; and a feature of the Thomas Ince house, designed by Roy Seldon Price, who worked on La Casa Nueva. More advertisements, many from Beverly Hills, including contractors from the Ince House, are at the rear. Architectural plans, drawings, and black and white photographs comprise the many illustrations, with quite a few of these being from the Ince House, as well. In fair condition, the pages have a few creases and some small stains, while the covers have abrasions at the lower right front cover, slight pest damage at the top right corner of the front, and surface soiling.
