Description

CAMPBELL BRICK & TILE CO. ENCAUSTIC TILE WITH DIAMOND AND STAR DESIGN Color: Brown, yellow An encaustic ceramic floor tile from the Campbell Brick & Tile Co., 1875-1882. The piece is in three plastic layers with a design of yellow background, upon which diagonal lines in brown are joined by four-pointed brown stars with brown dots in a yellow center. There are also brown dots interspersed in the design. On the reverse is the maker's imprint reading: "THE CAMPBELL / BRICK & TILE CO. / TRADE MARK [WITH A COMPASS DESIGN IN BETWEEN THE WORDS] / STOKE UPON TRENT." There are 24 perforations to assist in the adhering of the tile to a surface. One corner is chipped and there are surface scratches, but the tile is in good condition.
