A trade catalog, "Canary and Pet Owners Guide Book", John E. Hunn, ed. and issued by the Justrite Company. The paperback catalog has a cover with a yellow and black striped background; and image of two yellow birds on a branch; and the company's name; title; price; and blank square for the distributor's name on it. In this last section is a stamp with "Chas C. Navlet Co., / 20-22 E. San Fernando St. / San Jose, Calif." The back cover has an advertisement from Justrite, explaining the virtues of their products. The 63-page catalog offers items for the aquarium; canaries; dogs; goldfish; love birds; parrots; and tropical fish and provides extensive descriptions of the care and feeding of these pets, in addition to listing materials available from the company. The date is taken from a facsimile letter at the beginning to the company, dated 1 November 1930. Part b) is a handout from the R. T. French Company about supplies sold for the care of caged birds. The front section has the title "French's Supplies / for / Caged Birds" and a statement below with the company name and location at the bottom. The next four sections list products sold. The back section has hunts for canary care and daily feeding. The items were not folded well originally and are badly aligned. On a) the cover is heavily damaged with soiling; discoloration; pest holes; corner and edge tears; creases; and damage evidently caused from a pen nib. The pages are only slightly discolored, but the whole is in poor condition. Item b) has pen nib marks, as well, and is lightly discolored, so is in fair condition.Lexicon
