Cancelled check from The Farmers and Merchants' Bank of Los Angeles
Entry/Object ID
2007.134.1.1
Description
A cancelled check from The Farmers and Merchants' Bank of Los Angeles, made out by and to Richard Garvey, 28 December 1875. The check has the ink inscriptions by Garvey for a withdrawal of funds. There is a crossed-out two-cent internal revenue stamp at the left and a paid stamp from the bank toward the right. Garvey, who was Lucky Baldwin's agent around this time and later owned much land formerly owned by the Temple and Workman families, made this withdrawal about two weeks before the failure of Temple and Workman's bank. With two puncture marks, some small stains, browning, edge rubbing, and soiling, the overall condition is still fair.
