Description

Color: Blue; White A canister of Puretest Powdered Alum, produced by the United Drug Company, ca. 1920s. The cylinder-shaped package has a label affixed in blue and white with the product name, content weight, a guarantee of quality, the product model number, the company name and locations and directions for use. There is also a logo for Rexall on the front. When the product was opened, the label at the top was broken and the cap is plain on top. About two-thirds of the product remains in the container and is a white powder that has largely clumped together in a hard form. The label describes the product as suitable as a gargle, an astringent douche and "to Stop the Oozing of Blood." There is fairly extensive surface soiling, creases, abrasions and tears, so the artifact is in fair condition.
