Description

Color: Black; Gold; Green Book Number 38, issued by Carson Pirie Scott and Co., 1929. The 286-page catalog has a green hard cover with the company logo at the top in black letters within a black box. Below this are black letters that read, "BUY FROM THIS BOOK." At the center is a black shield within which are the words, "JEWELRY / DIAMONDS / SILVERWARE / WATCHES / GLASSWARE / GIFT / SUGGESTIONS / BOOK NO. 38." The same lettering and design are on the back cover. Around the shield are ornate gold designs. On the spine in black is the company logo, the goods available, and the date. At the beginning of the inside is an introduction to the book, a tear-out discount slip, and a note to merchants. Items available for sale include a variety of watches; clocks; gold chains; pocket knives and card cases; charms; pins; cuff links; rings; necklaces; bracelets; purses and hand bags; compacts; flasks; manicure and scissor sets; brushes; traveling cases; binoculars; cigarette cases; ash trays; pipes; pens; portfolios; frames; silverware; tableware; lamps; and electrical appliances for the home. At the back are illustrations of available engravings, order blanks, and an index. Also included are many black and white drawings and photographs, as well as some color illustrations. With some abrasions; dented corners; light discoloration; surface soiling; and tears of the cover paper, the artifact is in fair condition.
