Description

CARVING OF REPLICATED PANELS FOR LA CASA NUEVA DOORS IN PROGRESS Color: Brown A copy of a color polaroid photograph of two replicated wood panels for La Casa Nueva doors, 26 January 1979. The two rectangular panels rest on the top of a wood work table against the east wall of the house's kitchen. The one of the left is nearly completed, with some details to be executed at the bottom. The one on the right is fully done and painted dark brown. Both have a vase in the center surrounded by floral and vine elements. At lower left is a portion of a smaller square plaque of the Temple family motto within a clover. The two larger pieces were intended for either the Music Room or Library side of the doors to the Main Hall, while the latter item is for the Dining Room side of the doors to the Main Hall. At upper right is a corner of a black and white photograph of an original rectangular panel used for replication. On the reverse in black ink is the inscription "Temple Mansion /wood door decorative / carving panels / in progress / (by Clarence Morrison) / photo by archt. 1/26/79." The carver's name was Harvey Morris, not Clarence Morrison. Below this, covered by a piece of tape, is the stamp of restoration architect Raymond Girvigian with his name, address, and telephone number. With little indication of wear or damage, the artifact is in good condition. Number-Units: 1
