Description

Cigar case, ca. 1860s. The cigar case (a) was donated by a Workman family member. It is covered in brown fur, possibly bison or buffalo. The frame is made of gold or ormolu, with hinges and a push button. The interior is lined with a blue fabric, may be silk. On both sides of the case are leather pouches to hold cigars. Two cigars (b,c) were tucked inside one of the pouches. The case can hold up to six cigars. The cigars have no distinguishing labels or marks but appear to have been hand rolled and stuffed with tobacco. Upon research it was found that another cigar case, almost identical in appearance dates back to the 1860s as well but was purchased in France and was considered rare due to its lighter fur color. There is minor stains to the frame. It is in good condition.
