CATHEDRAL AND CAMPANILE AT FLORENCE, ITALYEntry/Object ID
93.8.1.14Description
Color: Black and white
A black and white engraving of the cathedral and campanile in Florence, Italy, ca. 1920s. The image, derived from a photograph, shows the domed cathedral at center with the campanile, or bell-tower, at the right. The cathdral has a large tower-topped drome at the rear, supported by domed flying buttresses, while the nave extends toward the front of the image and has a gabled roof. Both nave, designed by Arnulfo and Giotto, and the dome, designed by Brunelleschi, have circular windows. The campanile is a tall, narrow structure with arched windows and a roof with a thin pole abutting it. Around these structures can be seen many buildings and, in the background, some mountains. The image is titled just below with the print manufacturer name at the lower left and architect identification at the lower right. At the far right edge is "G 146." The artifact was found tucked between pages 162 and 163 of item 93.8.1.8. Other than a small area of foxing at the left side; edges of the front; and the bottom of the reverse and a slight amount of creasing, the artifact is in good condition.Lexicon
