Description
Characters from the Mission Play, San Gabriel, Stagg Photo Service, ca. 1920s. The view shows the group of five men and a woman standing on a dirt area next to fencing and a wooden building that may have been the Playhouse. The actors are dresed in costumes of a Spanish soldier, ranchero, Indian (with a feathered headdress as worn in the plains states), and a missionary, while the woman wears a long drress and holds a shawl in her arms. One man wears a 1920s-era suit, so it is unclear what his connection was to the play. The photo studio label is on the reverse. With tape residue, a repaired tear loose because of old tape and mounting paper residue, the condition is fair.
