Description

CHARLES TEMPLE AND A GROUP OF EIGHT AT LA CASA NUEVA'S FOUNTAIN Color: Black; White A black and white photograph of Charles Temple, Jr. and a group of eight unknown people at La Casa Nueva's courtyard fountain, ca. 1920s. The group sits across the center on the edge of the fountain with Temple at the center. He wears a tie, collared shirt, three-piece suit, and shoes. The man to the right wears the same, though his suit is of a lighter color. To the far right are three women, one who sits on the fountain and two standing. Four more women sit on the fountain at the far left. All of the women wear knee-length dresses of varying colors, hose, and heels. Everyone in the image holds a cocktail drink. At the center of the back is the fountain's round center-piece with only the small pool at the top and one of the mill-stones visible below this. Across the back is a row of many trees. Part of the home's north arcade is visible through the leaves and branches. At the far right is one of the round pillars of the east patio. Across the foreground is a short hedge. At the right of the back is a stamp that reads, "ANDERSON / Photo Service / EL MONTE." Below this is the number, "43." The photograph was housed in Agnes Temple's album which is item 96.7.94.1 along with many other photographs which span 96.7.1.1-.93.1. Contact sheets 2000.159.1.1-.8 show the original positioning of the images within the album. With yellowing of the paper and heavy stains along the bottom, the artifact is in poor condition. Number-Units: 1
