Description

CHILD OF J. WALTER DROWN AND ISABELLA DROWN, CA. 1880S Photograph: A black and white photograph of a toddler, probably a child of J. Walter and Isabella Drown, ca. 1880s. The image shows the child wearing a white dress, white hat, and seated in a chair. There appears to be an arm behind the chair, perhaps to hold the child's head still. The photo appears also to be taken at the same location and time as 96.35.184 of an infant. Copies of this photo are 96.35.185 and .187 and a photo of Isabella Drown is 96.35.183. J. Walter Drown was adopted by F.P.F. Temple in 1863 after his father's death and gave his name to Walter P. Temple. Drown and his wife were living at the Workman Homestead in the 1880 census and, six years later, were living as ranch superintendents for William H. Workman at Boyle Heights. The photo is in good condition with some edge wear. From the Thomas Temple Collection, donated by Ruth Ann Michaelis. None Number-Units: 1
