"Christmas at New Helvetia in 1847" (Los Angeles: privately printed, 1960), n. p. The softcover pamphlet (a) has a red cover (b) with a pasted label in a simple green border with the title (the label says "Christmas in New Helvetia", however) in green lettering. Part five of a series called Scraps of Californiana, the work is identified "as described by John Bonner in the San Francisco Examiner" in the late 19th-century. The introduction notes that "The following account of Christmas at Sutter's Hock Farm and Fort in 1847, may or may not have happened. . .," but purports to be an account of the holiday from that year. An illustration of Sutter's Fort, showing a drawing and a floorplan of the structure, is superimposed over a plat of modern Sacramento. At the back is a notation that 150 copies of the artifact were published as a keepsake for members of the Zamorano Club of early California book enthusiasts in Los Angeles by John B. Goodman III, who wrote the introduction, and Gordon J. Holmquist. An ex-libris label is posted on the upper left of the inside front cover from the library of Los Angeles publisher and printer Ward Ritchie. Other than some minor stains or wear on the cover, the document shows little sign of wear or damage otherwise and is in good condition.
