Description

Color: White, black, red, green A Christmas card, without envelope, from Bettie W. Jones to Walter P. Temple, Sr., ca. 1923. Printed on card stock, the card has a snow-scene image at the top showing a grove of trees, a house, the moon, and blankets of snow. Surrounding the half-moon shaped image is a border with holly leaves and berries in red and green. A Christmas message is printed in dark ink with Mrs. Jones' short message at the bottom (see Other-IDs.) Mrs. Jones husband, Johnstone, was Walter Temple's attorney as early as 1907 and was also hired in 1920 to write a history of the Workman and Temple families that he was unable to continue because of poor health and he died in 1922. It is assumed that because she was signing her name alone that Mrs. Jones sent this card at least by 1923, perhaps afterward, though other correspondence from her is mainly in 1923-24. On the bottom of the card written in dark ink is "Sincerely your friend / Mrs Johnstone Jones." With some surface soiling; the lower right corner creased; and discoloration, the card is in fair condition.
