Description

COLOR PHOTOGRAVURE POUCH FROM WEATHERBEST STAINED SHINGLES Color: Blue; Brown; Red A paper cover for a series of color photogravures of house plans featuring roofing from the Weatherbest Stained Shingle Company, Inc., ca. 1920s. The cover has a design to make it appear like leather and opens to form a gatefold to hold the photogravures. On the outside cover is a blue-bordered label with the words "Color Photogravures", the name and place of business of the company and a home with a red roof surrounded by rolling fields and trees. In the address portion of the label is typed "Mrs. J. Licoe / 15809 Damon Ave. / Cleveland, Ohio." The number "23" is typed at the lower right. When the flap is lifted, a statement about the quality of Weatherbest's shingles is given and there is an image of a house at the lower right and the company name, place of business and plant locations at the bottom. The gates are triangular shaped and there is a smaller rectangular flap which holds the photogravures in place. At the bottom of the front and back are remnants of the round blue sticker that sealed the cover for mailing. A 3-cent stamp in a purple color, with an image of Abraham Lincoln, is at the upper right of the front. With edge wear, some abrasions to the label and a few creases, the cover is in fair condition.
