"Condensed Novels" by Bret Harte (Boston: James R. Osgood and Company,) 1871. The 212-page hardcover book has a green cloth cover with a facsimile of Harte's signature on the center of the front within a gold border. The title, author's name, and publisher's logo are on the spine. The work consists of seventeen short comic parodies of prominent authors, including Dickens, Cooper, Dumas, Lytton-Bulwer, Charlotte Bronte, Wilkie Collins, Victor Hugo, and others, illustrated with drawings. With major edge and corner rubbing, light creases on some page corners, cover soiling, page browning, fading of spine lettering, some foxing on a few pages, losses on the flysheet at the front, stains on the cover and some pages, and tears of the cover fabric, the condition is generally fair.Lexicon
