Description

Construction of Barker Building, Los Angeles, Dwyer Studio, 18 June 1925. The image shows a little more than half of the steel framing in place for the eleven-story commercial building, anchored by the Barker Brothers furniture store, at 818 W. Seventh Street, between Flower and Figueroa (and which is now a loft building.) Cranes, lumber-loaded trucks, and a pedestrian walkway in front of the site are of note. At the lower right is an identification box listing the names of the contractor (Scofield Engineering and Construction Company), the owner (Sun Realty Company), and the architects (Curlett and Beelman), as well as the plate number and date. On the reverse is the photographer's stamp. The photo is on a linen backing, the item has some soiling, discoloration, a few creases, and warping, but is in good overall condition.
