A contract between Walter P. Temple and Johnstone Jones, 15 June 1920. The document, enclosed in a legal docket cover with two staple-like attachments, is a typewritten agreement stipulating terms. These include the total payment, broken down into a schedule, dependent on the submission and approval of chapters, with the approval of Temple and his attorney George Woodruff required. Conditions specifying the size of the book, number of chapters and pages, and words expected per page; that six chapters were received and twenty-four more remained; that all source materials and references were to be Temple's property; that at least fifty illustrations from the Luther A. Ingersoll Collection of the Los Angeles Public Library were to be used; that copyright and royalties were retained by Temple; that an eight-month deadline was established; and that Ingersoll could help Jones complete the work. At the end are a list of chapters and their titles and the signatures of Temple and Jones, formerly Temple's attorney previous to Woodruff. In good condition, the document has horizontal quarter folds, creases, indents on the pages from the staples and light discoloration.Lexicon
