Description

Color: Black and white A copy of a deed to Juan Matias Sanchez from Elias J. Baldwin, 7 June 1882. Written on a plain piece of stationery, this is either a direct transcription from the original deed, noted as book 90, page 214, or a carbon copy of the transcription. The action concerned the deeding of 200 acres of Sanchez of his original one-half ownership of Rancho La Merced, mortgaged to Baldwin by Sanxhez, William Workman, and F. P. F. Temple in December 1875 as part of the plan to save the Temple and Workman bank. Under instructions from Baldwin, through receiver Richard M. Garvey, the acreage was provided to Sanchez and his heirs forever. This grew out of a foreclosure action of Camilo Martin vs. William Temple, et. al., which led to the conveyance of all Temple, Workman, and Sanchez property held by mortgage to Baldwin. In fair condition, the object has one vertical fold; a few creases; dark discoloration; and much fading of ink.
