Description

COTTON LACE TABLECLOTH: CHERUB PANELS, FLORAL EDGE, LEAF AND VINE PATTERNS Color: White A cotton lace tablecloth, ca. 1920s. The outer edge has a series of vine-and-leaf designs with large flowers at the corners pointed toward the interior of the cloth. There is a border that is basically square, with curved corners and more vine-and-leaf patterns connected by brides. In the middle of the ends and sides of the piece, joined with this border, are circular figural panels consisting of pairs of cherubs in a variety of poses. Another border at the center is oval with curved-in ends and sections in the middle of the sides. There is the same vine-and-leaf design as in the outer border. At the center of the cloth is an oval panel with three cherubs in it and a narrow border filled with flowers. Between the borders and center panel are sections much like the edge, with the same weaving pattern and patterns of vines and leaves. Because of extensive staining, the piece is in fair condition, pending cleaning and/or conservation efforts.
