Description

COURTYARD AND SOUTH SIDE OF THE HOMESTEAD PROPERTY Color: Black; White A black and white photograph of the courtyard and south side of the Homestead property, ca. 1920s. At the far left and right are the second-floor open patios of La Casa Nueva's wings which have horizontal beams across the top. Two potted plants are on the east side while Thomas Temple's cat sits at the edge of the west. Between the two wings is part of the courtyard. Only part of a brick walkway, round planter, and the top of the fountain's center-piece are visible. Above this is the south lawn which has another round planter and several small trees. The Mission Walkway is across the center. It has tile along the top edge, a trellis, and several round pillars lining the bottom. Behind the walkway and to the left is the laundry building which is partly hidden by a row of trees and palms. It has tile along the top of the roof, a door at the left, and a window at the right. To the right of the building are several clothes-lines and several trees. Beyond this is a grassy field. The image was taken from atop the north roof. Some of the tile is at the bottom right of the foreground. At the bottom right corner of the back is the number, "21." The photograph was housed in Agnes Temple's album which is item 96.7.94.1 along with many other photographs which span 96.7.1.1-.93.1. Contact sheets 2000.159.1.1-.8 show the original positioning of the images within the album. With only a small stain on the bottom left corner, the artifact is in good condition. Number-Units: 1
