Description

Crash scene of an airplane near Los Angeles, 18 August 1927. The image shows the mangled monoplane, in which the pilot was killed, in the foreground and a group of bystanders and parked cars near an open undeveloped area, perhaps an airport, in the background. Dark grey paint or ink was applied to contrast the plane wrecakge from the rest of the scene. On the back is a caption in red crayon identifying the image. Two stamps gives dates of 18 August 1927, presumably the incident's date, and 20 August 1928 and the initials "N. E. A.", perhaps a press agency. With some soiling and stains, but otherwise little wear, the condition is good.
