Description

A ledger book containing records of the Cross Water Company, 1911-1925. The ledger's front cover and first page are missing, but the back cover has a black and red cover with gold detailing. All the other pages, including blanks at the end up through page 152 are intact, though some are loose from their binding, which is nearly worn away. Mounted on pages 2-96 are minutes of board meetings; correspondence; and stockholder lists. Notable individuals are Walter P. Temple, who owned five shares (corresponding to five acres of Cross Land Company land associated with the water company shares) and his sister Margarita's husband, Samuel P. Rowland, who was a director and vice-president in the first six months of the company's existence. Rowland was also the initial sales agent for the Cross Land Company. The artifact is in poor condition with significant brittleness; creases; discoloration; folds; pest damage; stains; and tears.
