"Culture and the Community, Los Angeles County," a pamphlet published by the Civic Bureau of Music Art of Los Angeles County, 1928. The cover is a simple white paper with horizontal lines and two panels on the front cover with embossing of a classical scene invoking the arts at the top and the title at the bottom. On the title page is a list of the board of directors of the Bureau, as well as a list of the county Board of Supervisors. Sections are included for the regional environment; a general section on the arts, with subsections on such areas as the Los Angeles Museum (now the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County complex), the Southwest Museum, the Huntington Library and Art Gallery, the Pasadena Art Institute, the California Art Club, California Botanic Garden, plans for the Los Angeles Civic Center and Los Angeles Plaza, the Tournament of Roses in Pasadena, and parks; painting and sculpture; architecture, including civic buildings, the Missions, and clubs; churches; music, including the philharmonic orchestra, symphonies, including the Hollywood Bowl, and others; auditoriums; literature, with the Los Angeles Public Library and Huntington Library; drama, theaters, and dancing, including the Mission Play; motion pictures; schools and observatories; and clubs. A list of the Bureau's advisory board is at the back and a map of notable cultural places at the centerfold. There are many photographs as illustrations, as well. With cover creases; corner dents; soiling; yellowing; edge flaking; a loose cover; stains and tears, the overall condition is fair.Lexicon
