Description
Damage to a structure from an explosion at the Olinda oil field, Brea, California, ca. 1920s. The image is taken from very near the tin building, at the right of which is the blast damage including twisted metal and pieces of what appear to be tanks. There are a few persons gathered around the structure. Behind the building, a tall plume of smoke rises from a fire. Off in the distance at the right are some oil derricks and portions of the hills above the field. The location appears to be at the west end of the field. An ink inscription on the reverse reads "Gasoline plant explosion at top of Hall's Hill." With some light soiling and light edge rubbing, the condition is good.
