Description

"DECORATIVE LIGHTING, HARTMAN-SPRENG CO. CATALOG, CA. 1928" Color: Brown "Decorative Lighting," a catalog issued by The Hartman-Spreng Company, ca. 1928. The document has a faux leather cover with an embossed stylized box, also faux leather, at the center top containing the title. Below is a logo with a wreath and a flame torch, in the same faux leather style as the title box. Under the logo is "CATALOG No. 33," with another stylized box at the bottom with the company name and place of business. The first page has a color drawing of an 18th-century scene, with a woman disembarking from a coach in front of a home, accompanied by a statement of the company's quality in recalling the craftsmanship of "early metal craftsmen." The listing of products, divided by product lines includes drawings, some of which are in color, quantities per case, dimensions and individual and case prices. Items include ceiling fixtures, chandeliers, wall sconces, free-standing lamps, and outdoor lanterns. Some are specifically identified for certain rooms of the house or as commercial items. Adapters, holders, canopies and other parts are offered, as well. A few of the lines are called "modern" and suggest an Art Deco styling that probably places the document in the later 1920s. A small memoranda section is at the bottom of the last page. Though the cover has some acid stains, spot stains, small tears and creases, mostly at the edges, the pages have slight staining and creases and the document is in fair condition overall.
