Description

DEED FROM FARMERS AND MERCHANTS BANK TO O. W. CHILDS, 16 OCTOBER 1874 Color: Black; White A deed from The Farmers and Merchants Bank of Los Angeles to Ozro W. Childs, 16 October 1874. The document has the names of the parties at the top, the preprinted word "DEED" at the center, the date of the instrument, beneath the latter, and information on the recording of the document, which was done on 8 February 1875, at the bottom of the front. When unfolded, the document, which is separated at the main fold at all panels except one, gives the information for the land transaction involving a $7,500 payment for four described parcels. These being 1) 91.49 acres of the Rancho San Antonio; 2) the Jose Maria Lugo tract on the said rancho; 3) property at the northwest quarter of Section 22, Township 2 South, Range 13 West, of the San Bernardino Meridian and 4) all of the Rancho San Antonio. Also part of the document is the signatures of the president and cashier of the bank and a notary public's statement of the two men's signatures in his presence. With the aforementioned separation of the document, creases, heavy soiling, especially on the front panel, browning to the paper, stains, and tears, the overall condition of the artifact is fair.
