DEL MONTE PEAS LABELEntry/Object ID
99.22.1.1Description
Color: Green; Red; White; Yellow
A label for a can of Del Monte brand peas, ca. 1920s. Created for the California Fruit Canners Association, the label is for the "Tiny California Petit Pois" style of peas. The flat artifact has at center right a logo with the brand name and motto "Brand / Extra / Quality" in a shield with a golden border and red field. Below this is the product name in a golden-edged bar with red field. At the center is the logo of the Association with a golden pegasus on a red background with white rays. Below the logo is the inscription "GENERAL OFFICES / SAN FRANCISCO / CALIFORNIA." At right is an image of a yellow bowl decorated with red flowers and filled with peas. Above the bowl is the brand name in white letters, while underneath is the product name, in a golden-edged bar and red field, and weight below this in white letters. Much of the images, inscriptions, and other markings are impressed into the paper. There are also a number of stylized designs which appear to be two Ds joined together over an M. The label's background color is dark green with thin gold lines at the top and bottom. A white band at the right is where the label would be glued if it were on a can. Aside from some surface soiling on the reverse, there are little indications of wear or damage and the artifact is in good condition.Lexicon
