Description

Color: Brown A color photograph of a detail from the La Casa Nueva basement vault after an overcoat of paint was stripped, but before restoration commenced, October 1979. The detail is the upper portion of the "column" that is at the right of the vault door. The door frame and pediment are partially at left and still have the overcoat of whitewash that covered the entire door. The column's whitewash was stripped, however, leaving the original black and gold paint. Included is a dentil at the top, followed by a gold-bordered rectangular area with vertical lines, and, beneath this, a floral design in black with gold detailing. On the reverse is an inscription in dark ink reading "Temple Bsmt. vault door / frame / Detail right pilaster cap / taken after uncovering / of overpaint prior to restor / ation / credit Walt Mancini, Pasa. / slide No. 24 / orig in office of . . . " Below this is the stamp, covered by a piece of tape, of restoration architect Raymond Girvigian, which has his name, address, and telephone number. This stamp is smeared, but the object is in good condition. Number-Units: 1
