Description

Color: Black; White A black and white reproduction photograph of a detail from the original door from the La Casa Nueva Library to the Main Hall, ca. 1975, as enlarged by Jeff Tyler in December 1978 or January 1979. The image consists of two photos taped together and shows the panel on the Main Hall side at the upper left section of the door and features a heraldic symbol of a bird over a shield. This shield has three crescent shapes at the top, four curved lines with a row of three birds in the middle, and a diamond with an angled cross superimposed over it. Below the shield is a banner, while above is a symbol of a small axe over a crescent and six round marble-like items. Floral scrolls border these patterns. The design is similar to the panel at the right, which is from the Temple family crest and so the above-described pattern may be a variation. At the upper left of the reverse is a pen inscription, in blue ink, reading "Carving Detail / Missing Library Door / Full Scale." Below, in black ink, is "-Blow-up made from / Architect's negative of / Library Door (which was / taken before it was stolen / ca. 1975-76). / -Enlargement made by / Jeff Tyler of Alhambra ca. 12/78 to 1/79." Below this is a stamp for restoration architect Raymond Girvigian with his name, address, and telephone number, under which is a stamp with the date "NOV 14 1981." To the right of the above inscriptions is another stamp for Girvigian, above which is a stamp with "RECEIVED / JAN 3 1979." In fair condition, the artifact is torn at the top and bottom edges and has some creases. Number-Units: 1
