Description

DETAIL OF PAINTING ON BASEMENT VAULT DOOR BEFORE RESTORATION Color: Brown A color photograph of a detail from the La Casa Nueva basement vault after an overcoat of paint was stripped, but before restoration commenced, October 1979. The detail is a landscape scene painted at the center of the door and consists of a building by a roaring stream below towering mountains and amidst a forest. The scene is bordered by a rectangular area with a slightly curved top. There are either remnants of a whitewashed overcoat or some other damage around the outside of the image. On the reverse is an inscription in dark ink reading "Temple Bsmt. Vault dor / mural panel on front / after uncovering, prior / to restoration / slide taken by Walt Mancini, / Pasa. Oct. 1979 / Slide No. 11 [this last part was underlined] / orig in office of Historical Archt." This architect was Raymond Girvigian whose stamp, covered by a piece of tape, has his name, address, and telephone number. This stamp is smeared and there are a few ink stains on the reverse, but the object is in good condition. Number-Units: 1
