Description

DETAIL OF PAINTING ON BASEMENT VAULT DOOR BEFORE RESTORATION Color: Brown A color photograph of a detail from the La Casa Nueva basement vault after an overcoat of paint was stripped, but before restoration commenced, October 1979. The detail is a section of the door below the center and consists of a very stylized floral design in red, yellow, blue and brown colors. At the upper left is a gole and the indications of a circular cover are where the combination dial was located. This is over a black background. The presence of many scratches and worn paint, indicates that restoration had not yet begun. The image was taken, however, after a coat of whitewash was removed from the door. On the reverse in dark ink is the inscription "Temple Basmt. vault door / after uncovering prior to restor- / ation / detail below mural / Walt Mancini photo slide no. 34 / Oct. 79 / orig in office." Below this, covered by a piece of tape, is the stamp for restoration architect Raymond Girvigian with his name, address, and telephone number. In good condition, the artifact has, aside from some ink smears on the reverse, little indication of wear or damage. Number-Units: 1
