Description

DETAIL OF WORKMAN HOUSE, SOUTHWEST PART OF RANCHO LA PUENTE, 1870 Color: Black; White A photograph of a detail from a map of "Southwest Part of Rancho La Puente, A Portion of the Land of W. Workman," surveyed in June 1870 by Los Angeles County Assistant Surveyor Lothar Seebold. The detail shows an image of the Workman House, which constitutes the earliest extant image of the building after its late 1860s remodeling. The view is from the southwest, showing the western facade and south porch of the home. Around the building are rows of trees, which probably did not represent the actual landscaping. There may be an arbor extending from the south porch toward the right, but the details are hazy. At the bottom of the image is the caption "Residence of W. Workman, Esq." As a reproduced photo, this artifact is in mint condition. Number-Units: 1
