Description

Color: Brown; White; Green A ceramic tile of a ship on the sea, part of the Doheny series manufactured by the Richard Thomas Keit Studios, 1999. Glazed in a black-line technique, the square tile has four half-circles in white at the corners, a yellow border and a square panel with convex corners. Within this panel is a ship in an ocean. The vessel has a large white sail containing a yellow sun with brown and white rays in the center. There are also four horizontal lines in the sail, while the mast at the top is brown and there is a brown and white banner at the top right. The prow of the ship is also in brown and white. In three shades of green, the ocean is around the ship, while the sky has a mixture of brown and green shades. At the center of the reverse is a card with Craftsman-style borders and lettering for the Keit Studios with an address and telephone and the motto "Continuing the hand crafted art tile tradition / of the Malibu Potteries (circa 1920's)." As a new artifact, the tile is in mint condition.
