Souvenir: Donner Party souvenir, a piece of Murphy's Cabin, winter camp for the Donner Party in 1846-47. The item is in a clear glass bottle (a), sealed with red wax, and accompanied by printed tags. The relic was for sale after 1893 and the wood is largely dust now. Two tags (b-c) are attached to the bottle neck with pink cotton thread. Tag B has the registered number 2429, price of $1.00, and a pledge by C.F. McGlashan that the net receipts of 5000 sold relics were for a Donner Party monument. The reverse advertises McGlashan's history of the party for $1.00. Tag C has statements by McGlashan and others that they removed the foundation log from the cabin and that the piece in the bottle was part of that log. Tag D, which is loose, and has white string, states that the souvenirs were transferred to a monument committee of the Native Sons of the Golden West in 1910 with another ad for the Donner Party history. Purchased at the California Immigrant Museum. In good condition. None
