Description

Color: Gold; Green; White "Dons of the Old Pueblo," by Percival J. Cooney (Chicago: Rand McNally Company, 1914,) 439 pp. The book's hardcover is green with, on the front, gold lettering for the title, which is across the top, and the author's name which is across the bottom. At the center is a white mission tower bordered by vines. The drawing, the title, and the author's name are also on the spine, along with the publisher's name. A label stating that the book was a complimentary copy is adhered to the first flysheet. This is followed by a title page, preface, and table of contents. The fictional work contains thirty-six chapters that cover a romantic story of life in Mexican California and Los Angeles. Two drawings and a map of the Los Angeles area, that highlights places mentioned in the story, are included. In good condition, there is some light damage to the artifact's cover including abrasions along the spine, dented corners, light soiling, fading of the gold lettering, and small tears to the fabric. The pages are darkening and some have small pencil marks.
