DORIS ROMERO ON A BURRO IN LA CASA NUEVA'S COURTYARD, CA. 1928
Color: Black; White
A black and white photograph of Doris Romero on a burro in La Casa Nueva's courtyard, ca. 1928. Doris is in the center of the image mounted on the donkey. Facing to the right, she wears a straw hat; long-sleeve shirt; pants; and laced boots. She faces the photographer while holding on to the reins in her right hand. Equipped only with a bridle, the donkey has its body positioned to the right but its head is turned back to the left. It has dark hair throughout its body except for the stomach, snout, and around the eyes where it is light. The area where the burro is standing is dirt while across the back is the raised west corridor of the courtyard. On the left side of the stone covered walkway is a white pillar, two potted plants, and an archway in which a portion of the Tepee and Mission Walkway can be seen. On the right, covered by shade, is an iron easel, standing ceramic pot, and a potted palm in front of the screen door to the housekeeper's bedroom. Doris Romero is the daughter of Jack Romero, ranch foreman, chauffeur, and brother of the Temple family housekeeper, Maud Romero Bassity. With no signs of wear, the image, which has a corresponding negative in 99.6.7.176, is in good condition.
