DOWNTOWN LA PUENTE AT MAIN STREET AND FIRST, 1947
Color: Black; White
A negative of a black and white photograph of downtown La Puente at Main and First Streets, 1947. Main Street is across the image in the foreground with First in the center running towards the background. There are several automobiles parked on the left side of First facing in towards the sidewalk where there are palm trees lining that side of the street. A building with large square windows, an iron light post with column designs, and a street sign are all on the left corner. Across the center is a crosswalk leading to the right side of the street. On the right corner is a brick building with an awning; above the awning and on its side it reads, "Lee's/ Shoes." An automobile is parked between this building and the next which has a striped awning and a sign above reading, "FEDCO"; other advertisements on the building read, "CAPITOL/ TRIPLEX", "ACE HI/ FEEDS", "MEAT", and "UNIVERSAL/ FEEDS." Another building with a striped awning is next to the latter with the word, "JOURNAL" (meaning the newspaper "The La Puente Valley Journal") painted on the side. Other buildings and homes are in the distance. Trees, utility posts, and parrallel-parked automobiles line the right side of the street. In the middle of the street are the words, "XING/ PED." With no signs of wear, the image, which has a corresponding print in 99.5.11.235, is in good condition.
