EAST DOOR, NORTH PORCH OF THE WORKMAN HOUSE AFTER PLASTER STIPPING
Color: Brown; White
A color polaroid photograph of the Workman House north porch east entrance, 15 August 1978. At the center is the door and frame, the former of which is painted white, while the frame appears to have been stripped of its paint, leaving the bare wood underneath. A sign in the window portion of the door warns of entering the building, which was potentially hazardous. The wall surrounding the door has also been stripped of its plaster, leaving the original adobe brick largely exposed, though some sections of plaster remain. At the top left and right sections of the door are the plaster-covered exposed portions of the lintel, the left side of which was later encased in glass in the restoration of the building. At the bottom left and right of the wall are some dark patches, where it appears some repair work to the wall was done. At the top is part of the exposed wood ceiling, later stuccoed, while at the bottom is part of the porch floor, on which there is a plastic jug, at left, and a galvanized bucket, at right. The extreme left shows a small part of the recently restored front porch post and rail. An ink inscription on the reverse reads "Workman Res. / North porch / East wall-note/ plaster tests prior to / restoration (demonstrate / bonding of new plas. to adobe) / specs. prove more than adequate / photo by archt. 8/15/78." Below this is the stamp of restoration architect Raymond Girvigian with his name, address, and telephone number, covered by a piece of tape. With little evidence of wear or damage, the artifact is in good condition.
