Description

EAST DOOR, NORTH PORCH OF THE WORKMAN HOUSE AFTER PLASTER STRIPPING Color: Brown; White A color polaroid photograph of the Workman House north porch east entrance, 15 August 1978. At the center is the door and frame, the former painted white and the latter appearing to have recently been stripped, so that the graining is exposed. A sign on the door, dated 23 August 1976, warns of unauthorized entrance, because of the potentially hazardous condition of the structure. Around the door are sections of the original adobe wall, also stripped of plaster in preparation for restoration. At the lower left and right are dark gray or brown sections that appear to have been repaired areas of the wall. At the bottom of the image is a very small portion of the porch floor where it meets the wall, just below the threshold. On either side of the top of the door can be seen, painted or plastered white, portions of the lintel. The left side of this area was later preserved behind glass as part of the restoration of the building. On the reverse is an ink inscription reading "Workman Residence / North porch at east wall / showing loose plaster / plaster stripped from / adobe blocks / prior to restoration / photo by archt. 8/15/78. Beneath this is a stamp for restoration architect Raymond Girvigian with his name, address, and phone number, over which is a piece of tape. There seems to be little evidence of wear or damage to the artifact, which is in good condition. Number-Units: 1
