EAST DOOR, NORTH PORCH OF THE WORKMAN HOUSE DURING PLASTER STRIPPING
Color: Brown; White
A color polaroid photograph of the Workman House north porch east entrance, 15 August 1978. At the center left is the door and frame, the former of which is painted white, while the frame appears to have been stripped of its paint, leaving the bare wood underneath. The wall surrounding the door is in the process of plaster stripping, with the modern plaster seen largely at the top and top right and remnants of the original granite-block plasterwork at at the left and lower right. There are several sections, especially at the top corners and the lower sections around the door, as well as at far left, that show the adobe wall exposed. At the top is part of the ceiling, with the modern plaster still intact. In the foreground, at bottom, is the porch floor, on which is a red-colored pole resting against the door frame and wall; two saw-horses, at lower left, hold some wood pieces; and, on the floor at right, some stacked white items, which are not identified. Part of the dark brown-colored baseboard is visible at the lower right. An ink inscription on the reverse reads "Workman Residence / North porch-east aide/ Stripping newer plaster / from historic layer / prior to restoration / photo by archt. 5/2/78." Below this is the stamp of restoration architect Raymond Girvigian with his name, address, and telephone number, covered by a piece of tape. With little indication of wear or damage, the artifact is in good condition.
