Color: Black; White
A black and white photograph of the east side of La Casa Nueva, ca. 1941. The photographer stood on the lawn at the northeast corner of the grounds and the home is shrouded in shadow at the right, with part of the master bedroom balcony at the upper right. Tall bushes obscure much of the lower part of the home. At the left is the east side of the Mission Walkway with the columns, wood trellis, and grape vines visible, as well as the top of the arch where the east gate is located. Two of the adobe planters are toward the center with small shrubs and flowering plants along the walkway and around the planters. A hedge, where the flagstone walk leads from the living and dining rooms to the east gate is behind the first planter. In the background are the trunk to the large palm tree near the southeast corner of the house; an electric power pole and part of the roof for the large winery/auditorium. Several smaller palms are at the left, just behind the Mission Walkway. On the reverse upper right corner is the penciled inscription "#14" and at the center, in pencil, is "15." This is the same view as item 118 with a lighter exposure, so the house is less shadowed. With little indication of wear or damage, the artifact is in good condition.
