EAST SIDE OF LA CASA NUEVA FROM THE NORTHEntry/Object ID
99.5.5.137Description
Color: Black; White
A black and white photograph of the east side of La Casa Nueva, as seen from the northeast corner of the front yard, ca. 1941-42. Part of the northern elevation, including one set of the living room french doors and the north side of the master bedroom balcony are at the upper right, while the upper center shows the eastern elevation of the home. The house is largely shadowed, indicating that the photograph was taken in the afternoon. Tall bushes obscure much of the northeast corner of the building and other tall bushes are noted around the breakfast room. In the foreground is a lawn with, to the left, a variety of bushes and shrubs, two of the adobe planters and the lower part of the trunk of the tall palm tree near Walter Sr.'s bedroom. In the distance, at left, is a part of the south side of the Mission Walkway. It is noted that there is no walkway around the house from the living room to the front, though a low hedge at left indicates the flagstone walk from the living and dining rooms to the east gate in the Mission Walkway. Aside from some small creases and very light stains and discoloration, the photograph is in good condition.
