Description

EAST WALL PLASTER STRIPPING, FRONT PORCH OF THE WORKMAN HOUSE Color: Brown; White A color polaroid photograph of the east wall of the front porch of the Workman House during plaster stripping, ca. June 1978. At the center is the door to the northeast wing with the wall around it stripped of all the modern plaster. Underneath are remnants of the historic "granite block" plaster wall with large sections of exposed adobe at the top and bottom. The porch floor, below, and the ceiling, above, are also stripped of paint and plaster, leaving bare wood and lath. At left is the recently restored porch rail, posts, and balusters, as well as the exterior wall of the northeast wing, though the bright lighting obscures detail. A small portion of the north wall and one of the windows is at right, as is a bucket in the corner of the porch. An ink inscription on the reverse reads "Workman Residence / North porch, looking east / photo Jeff Tyler, Alhambra / R-5 #31 / ca. 6/78." Under this is the stamp of restoration architect Raymond Girvigian with his name, address, and phone number covered by a piece of tape. With no indication of significant wear or damage, the object is in good condition. Number-Units: 1
