EDMUND BURKE TO U. S. ATTORNEY GENERAL, 9 JUNE 1916
Color: Black; White
A letter from Edmund Burke to the United States Attorney General, 9 June 1916. The item, on the letterhead of the Safety Advertising Match Company, is typed and concerns Burke seeking the opinion of the Attorney General about compensation claims for cases such as Alcatraz Island, given that Burke believed that equities favored the advancement of such a claim. Further, Burke identified a moral obligation of the government to make compensation for the seizure of the island pending an interpretation of the California Land Claims Act of 1851 and its 1864 amendments. With staple holes at the upper left, horizontal and vertical folds, and page browning, the document is in fair condition.
