Description

EIGHT GIRLS AT THE HOMESTEAD SWIMMING POOL, CA. 1921 Color: Black; White A reproduction photograph from an original negative of eight girls at the Homestead swimming pool, ca. 1921. The image shows four girls squatting on a concrete edging at the south side of the pool, while three of the girls sit on a pole fence and the other has her back turned while leaning on the fence behind the first four. The tops of the heads of two of the girls sitting on the fence are left off the image, so they cannot be identified. The third girl might be Agnes Temple, but the facial features are blurred and underexposed. All wear light-colored dresses. In the background is part of the water, a ladder and slide and a small portion of Puente Hill. In the foreground is a dark green bush or shrub. Identification of some of the girls is provided from item 2000.111.1.1, a copy of this image, on the reverse of which in black ink is the inscription "At the Temple Ranch / l. to r. / Carolina Rowland LOWER, Laurita Lugo HILLS, ---------, / Elvira Rowland WARD," written by Carolina Rowland Lower. As a new copy, this image is in mint condition. Number-Units: 1
